Four Tet

British artist Four Tet, a genre-defying empresario of soundscapes, delivered an intimate, sensorial odyssey last night at the Masonic Lodge in Hollywood. Complete with a Kusama-inflected light show, experiencing Four Tet's show felt more like active participation in an art installation than heart-pounding DJ set. 20-minute voyages through sound and light ascended to new heights as vocals cues from seemingly another dimension returned to provide a semblance of structure to the wandering music. Unlike artists who are fully focused on creating anticipation for the drop's crescendo, Four Tet's build ups are equally mystifying, leaving the audience enthralled to have been brought along for the ride. For Four Tet, the journey is just as important as the destination.
